Partnering with Historic Environment Scotland on a landmark redevelopment project
We are delighted to announce that Storm ID has been selected to redevelop the Historic Environment Scotland (HES) website. This is a landmark project, which will transform how people engage with Scotland’s rich history online, and we are incredibly excited to be a part of it.

The current HES website has served admirably since we first launched it in 2015. However, the digital landscape has evolved significantly and user needs have changed. HES recognised the need for a website that better reflects its expanded role and provides a more user-friendly experience.
Our initial focus will be on addressing the challenges identified through extensive user research conducted by HES. This includes:
- Improving navigation and site structure to make it easier for users to find the information they need.
- Creating distinct user journeys for 'Commercial' and 'Corporate' audiences.
- Developing a richer, more engaging digital experience that meets modern user expectations.
- Ensuring the website is accessible across all devices and platforms.
"We are confident that our expertise in user-centred design and agile development will enable us to deliver a website that exceeds the HES team’s expectations."
Key features and functionality
The new HES website will incorporate a range of features and functionality designed to enhance the user experience and support HES's strategic objectives. These include:
- Seamless integration with HES's new digital platform, trove.scot.
- Integration with a new Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM system, including a user-friendly membership portal.
- A more efficient and intuitive content management system that empowers HES staff to manage website content effectively.
- A robust search function that allows users to quickly and easily find the information they need.
- A strong emphasis on accessibility, ensuring the website can be used by everyone.
"We are excited to work with Storm ID on this important project. Their innovative approach and commitment to user experience align perfectly with our vision for the future of our digital presence."
A collaborative approach
We believe that successful projects are built on strong partnerships. We are committed to working closely with HES throughout the development process, ensuring that their vision and expertise are at the heart of the new website.
We are confident the new HES website will be a valuable resource for anyone interested in exploring and learning about Scotland's fascinating history. We look forward to launching the website in March 2026 and continuing our partnership with HES to support and enhance their digital presence in the years to come.
