Storm ID awarded AI project with North Sea Transition Authority
Edinburgh based digital, data and AI experts to deliver innovative AI enabled chatbot solution for offshore energy data discovery.

Storm ID, the leading digital transformation, data and AI consultancy, is delighted to announce its selection by the North Sea Transition Authority to deliver an AI supported chatbot, designed to revolutionise access to offshore energy data. The contract will see Storm ID apply its extensive experience in data, AI and public sector innovation to help the North Sea Transition Authority and the wider Offshore Energy Digital Strategy Group unlock the full value of authoritative open datasets.
The North Sea Transition Authority is the UK regulator for the oil and gas, offshore hydrogen and carbon storage industries. Headquartered in Aberdeen, it licenses, regulates and influences these sectors to support UK energy security, reduce emissions from UK supplies, and accelerate the transition to net zero by helping realise the North Sea’s potential as an integrated energy basin. The North Sea Transition Authority is an executive non departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), with day-to-day operational independence in carrying out its regulatory functions.
Storm ID has a proud history of delivering secure, accessible and impactful digital solutions for the energy, government and regulated sectors. This appointment further cements the company’s commitment to advancing digital transformation in support of the UK’s energy transition and net zero ambitions.
The project will focus on developing a proof of concept AI chatbot and supporting recommendations that enable users to rapidly discover and access reliable datasets and documentation through the North Sea Transition Authority’s open data portals and ArcGIS services. Bringing together Storm ID’s strengths in cloud native architecture, data integration, and responsible AI, the team will ensure the solution is user centric, robust and scalable for future needs.
Craig Turpie, Director at Storm ID, commented on the award:

Tanya Knowles, Head of Digital Services at NSTA added:
The NSTA is committed to supporting UK energy security, progressing the energy transition and helping to reduce emissions. Easy access to high-quality data is vital for companies working on the North Sea and we are looking forward to seeing the results of this project.
