The role
Storm ID is an Edinburgh-based digital transformation consultancy that helps organisations accelerate their use of digital, data and AI. We believe in tailored solutions, assembling expert teams to address each client's unique needs. Our services span strategy, design, technology and data & AI, ensuring seamless end-to-end delivery of platforms, products and services with real-world impact.
What sets us apart is our commitment to long-lasting, data-driven, user-centered change. We enjoy close collaboration between our teams, ensuring projects move smoothly from discovery to design to delivery. We recognise the crucial link between digital and data, creating intelligent services that leverage both.
We work with a range of clients across the Scottish and UK public and private sectors.
You’ll join a Creative Team of Content Designers, Digital Designers, User Researchers and Front-end Developers, collaborating together to deliver user-centred, accessible websites and services.
You’ll be responsible for designing and creating clear, inclusive, user-centred content for websites, services and products – from discovery to live in multi-disciplinary project teams.
About you
We know that many professionals will come from a variety of backgrounds, and we encourage and value people who bring unique perspectives and knowledge to our team.
You will have experience working in a content or similar user centred design role. You'll also need to have:
- Experience as a content designer, copywriter, UX writer or similar role, ideally in an agency or multi-project environment.
- Experience working across user needs, mapping journeys, and turning complex policy or business requirements into plain English in an accessible, inclusive way.
- The ability to work with data and evidence: user research, analytics, stakeholder input, and experimentation, you’re happy to change course when the data tells you to.
- Confidence presenting your work, explaining the rationale and challenging assumptions in a constructive way.
- The ability to manage your time across multiple workstreams, delivering to deadlines without losing attention to detail.
- Familiarity with (or keen to learn) GDS-style content patterns, service standards and accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.2).
- A desire to collaborate with designers, user researchers and front-end developers in agile teams.
- The ability to organise your workload, prioritising tasks and maintaining an excellent level of detail.
- An interest in how AI can be used to compliment you work and improve efficiency.
- Demonstrable passion about design and technology
One more thing – research indicates that marginalised groups of people may not apply for jobs unless they meet 100% of the qualifications. We also know that many professionals come from various backgrounds. We value people who bring unique perspectives and new knowledge to our team. If you believe you're qualified, but don't "check all the boxes", please submit an application.
What you'll do
As a Content Designer you will:
- Design and iterate content for end-to-end user journeys, from transactional services to content managed websites based on user and business needs.
- Translate complex information (policy, legal, technical) into clear, concise and understandable content and interfaces for different audiences.
- Work closely with designers and user researchers to define information architecture, content types, patterns and components.
- Ensure content is implemented as intended and works well across devices and contexts.
- Use research, usability testing and analytics to identify content problems and opportunities, then iterate based on what you learn.
- Use a variety of prototyping methods from paper sketches to Figma to HTML to make thinking and strategy tangible early.
- Contribute to content strategies, guidelines, and content design principles for our clients.
- Help maintain and evolve content types, patterns, components, and style guides across services.
- Facilitate or support workshops with stakeholders to understand business and user needs, agree on goals and get to shared decisions.
- Ensure all content meets accessibility standards and is inclusive by design.
- Contribute to the Creative Team at Storm ID – sharing what you learn and helping to improve our ways of working.
